The Mercedes AMG GT (and GTS/GTC/GTR) is a unique model designed to compete with the likes of the Porsche 911 and other leading supercars. It’s built very differently from other Mercedes models with its unique front mid-engine layout and rear transaxle setup. As with any vehicle though, it’s not immune to windshield damage and replacement can be quite involving.

This particular vehicle had major chips on the windshield and the roof glass panel so both panels needed to be replaced. The car is driven on racetracks and has been on multiple long road trips, it has even gone down to California, so this sort of damage is not exactly surprising.

For this vehicle, the roof panel actually needs to be removed in order to take the windshield out. This includes dropping the headliner, removing the pillar trims, and removing the mirror/front windshield sensors. It should not be undertaken by any shop who has not had experience with this type of specialty vehicle as the process is significantly more work than standard windshield replacement.

Additionally, as this vehicle has various safety systems integrated to the windshield sensor, specialty equipment is required to recalibrate the car. We have our in-house Autel MaxiSys ADAS calibration machine to restore all these safety functions and ensure functionality.
