As we are in the auto glass business, interior disassembly is a regular part of our scope of work. We can assist with various automotive jobs that other mechanics and body shops may not want to touch. This Cayenne was one such job that required a complex skill set that mechanics don’t regularly encounter. With the 955/957 Cayenne generation, the rear hatch was rather over-engineered and has a total of 4 struts holding the glass up as well as the metal hatch separately.

This design allowed you to access your trunk by just opening the rear window and could also allow carrying longer/bulkier items in a relatively short SUV. Unfortunately, access to these hatch struts is significantly more difficult than other SUVs as they are recessed in the headliner.

Parts are relatively cheap but the precision and skill to install them are difficult. We do not recommend attempting this type of job yourself as the risk of injury is rather high due to the weight of the components and tension the strut and spring is under.

Installation also requires resealing the access panels for these struts, which luckily for us is similar to other glass work that we do regularly. An assistant is also needed to set the hatch/glass to the exact height where the strut will engage nicely.

All in all, this was not an easy job but it is a meaningful one as a working hatch strut is crucial for the user’s safety. Contact us today for a quote on various assistance you may need with your vehicle!
