As with any track oriented car, rock chips and various debris at high speed is expected. After just a year of ownership, this GT4 received a decent size rock chip on the top driver’s side which immediately spread into a crack. Because of the spread this windshield could not simply be repaired. And as this car is used on track, the crack is a liability and would not pass any legitimate organizer’s track day inspection.
As per the customer’s request, we opted for a factory Pilkington windshield made in Germany that would be identical to the piece it replaces. This windshield has the provisions for the various sensors and cameras on the top of the windshield. Clarity will not be compromised (compared to stock) as it is an identical part. This repair was claimed under the customer’s ICBC comprehensive policy.
We also took care to remount the dash cam, radar detector, and Garmin Catalyst mounts on the new windshield. This windshield also has a defroster plug in which is connected on the passenger side A-pillar. All in all, this is a fairly involving install but a satisfying one. We also had the vehicle’s camera recalibrated as this car was equipped with PDLS+ headlights.
